This is the shortest lesson in the module, and it should be. Export is where a surprising number of people lose an evening to settings that don't matter.

The answer is 1080p, H.264. That's the export. Set it once in your editor, save it as a preset, and never think about it again.

Why this deserves a lesson at all is what happens when people don't have a fixed answer. They finish the edit, they get to the export dialogue, and they see forty options. Bitrate. Container. Two-pass. Colour space. Half a dozen codec names they've never used. And because it's the last step before something goes public, it feels important, so they go and read about it. That's an hour gone, on a decision that has no visible effect on the finished video and no effect at all on whether it performs.

The other thing a fixed preset buys you is that the file comes out of your editor finished. Not "finished, then run it through a converter." Not "finished, then re-encode it because the upload was rejected." Done. It goes straight from your export folder to the upload page with nothing in between, and that matters more than it sounds like it does, because you're not doing this once. You're doing it every single day, and every extra step between the edit ending and the video going live is a step that will eventually be the reason you didn't post.

There's a consistency argument too. Every video on your channel coming out of the same preset means every video looks the same on the way in, so when something performs badly you already know the export wasn't the variable. You changed the thumbnail, or the hook, or the pacing. Not the encoder. Keeping one thing fixed across your whole library is how you keep the other things readable.

So the discipline here is just refusing to fiddle. When you're tired at the end of a build, the export dialogue is a very inviting place to feel productive without producing anything. Resist that. It's the same file every time, and the video that's already exported and uploaded beats the one you're still optimising.

Preset it. Upload it. Move on.
